- Antonio Guisasola, president of PROMUSICAE and AGEDI, is part of the Academy’s Board of Directors as treasurer. Similarly, representatives from various record companies are included in the newly elected Board of Directors, specifically Alicia Arauzo (Universal Music), Blanca Salcedo (Sony Music Spain), Carla Varona (Sin Anestesia), Charlie Sanchez (Metales Preciosos), Mar García (Warner Music) and Sabine Huygaerts (Música Global).
Madrid, December 18, 2024. Academia de Música de España (Academy of Music of Spain), which brings together performers, songwriters, producers, promoters, managers, sound technicians, and other professionals from the music industry, is embarking on a “new, intense, and exciting journey”, in the words of its new president, Soledad Giménez, following the first elections. The popular singer leads the “Avanza” Candidacy, which includes 30 Academicians, all of them major figures in the industry. They presented an ambitious strategic program that was endorsed with 85.17% of the votes from the Academy’s members, and it will serve as the roadmap for the next four years of the institution.
The elections were held smoothly, using an online voting system, from Monday, December 9, to Thursday, December 12, with a high voter turnout of 42.91%, a clear sign of the interest, enthusiasm, and mobilization that the Academy and these first elections have sparked in the sector.
The elected candidacy, which includes influential figures from various interests and sensibilities within the music industry, now faces the responsibility and challenge of taking up the baton from those who initiated the project and have worked to consolidate it over the past two years as a meeting point for the entire music community, aiming to improve the real positioning of every single professional in Spanish music.
Formation of the new Board of Directors
The new Board of Directors, which will take office in the coming days, will consist of the following members: Soledad Giménez (President), Antonio Ruiz Onetti (General Secretary), Antonio Guisasola (Treasurer) and the Board members Alicia Arauzo, Amaro Ferreiro, Blanca Salcedo, Carla Varona, Daniela Bosé, David Santiesteban, Almudena Heredero, Javier Portugués-Portu, José Luis Sevillano, Charly Sánchez, Mar García de Piedra, María Toledo, Mikel Izal, Pepe Sánchez, Zahara Gordillo, Nacho García Vega, Rosa Lagarrigue, Óscar García Blesa, Rafa Artero, Sabine Marie Huygaerts, Paco López, Ricky Falkner and Pascual Egea. In case it is required, the elected alternate members are Íñigo Argomaniz, Mariola Orellana, Rafa Aguilar and Chen Castaño.
In addition to deepening the lines of action already initiated, the new Board of Directors aims to undertake other significant actions in its governance program for 2025-2029 and to be the voice and instrument that fine-tunes a stronger harmony for all those whose passion and profession is Music.
Thus, among its objectives are the promotion of ACAMUS as an integrative, strong, and dynamic representative of the sector, the global projection of Spanish repertoire, the organization of new editions of the Academy’s Awards (Premios de la Academia), the promotion of studies and research that enhance the understanding and analysis of the challenges faced by the sector, the pursuit of alliances with other institutions, and the acquisition of financial resources beyond the collecting societies that have generously contributed to its establishment and consolidation. These are undoubtedly a set of measures and actions that will require the effort and commitment of all the members of the Board of Directors, who were elected today.
